Area History

Henry Wickenburg discovered the Vulture mine in 1863, one of the richest gold mines in Arizona. Several other mines, including the Congress, Yarnell and Octave were also discovered and produced significant high grade ore during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Project History

  1915 – 1947

  • Drove and sank 2,000 feet (600 m) of adits, crosscuts, drifts & shafts
  • Surface mined 11,000 tons (10,000 tonnes) of ore and shipped to smelter
  • Constructed a small mill in 1942 for War effort

  1972 – 1987

  • Drilled 6 diamond holes into a prospective zone of kaolinite clay
  • Drilled 22 percussion holes in adjacent gold zones

1987- 1990

  • Mapping and aerial photography
  • Rock-chip sampling and RC drilling of 83  holes by Westmont
  • Drilled 19 RC holes by Lupine Minerals and Westmont JV

 1990-1992

  • Newsboy Gold Mining Co. options Project from Westmont
  • Drilled 12 core and 40 RC hole
  • Initiated environmental permitting
  • Completed feasibility and engineering studies

1993-1995

  • Moneta Porcupine Mines purchases Project, drills 8 holes and performs geochemical and geophysical programs

2008

  • Lands re-acquired by Southwest Exploration Inc and optioned to Bullfrog Gold’s subsidiary
